First Holy Communion usually takes place in spring, most often in May, and for many children it is one of the first days when the whole family gathers around them. Cards come from godparents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, usually with a gift. The child often reads them alone, so write simply and warmly, with their name in the first sentence.

Describe how the card should look, and we design the communion symbols as an original illustration in your chosen colours. A DL card slips easily into an envelope with a gift, while a 150 mm square looks smart next to a present.

Communion card sizes

You can also enter a custom size in mm or cm, portrait or landscape. A6 fits a C6 envelope, DL fits a DL envelope. You can put your wishes on the back.

What to write in a communion card

Write to the child, not to the parents. Two or three sentences are enough: a greeting by name, a mention of the day and one wish they will understand. Religious wishes are natural on this occasion, but if you prefer something simpler, focus on joy, friendship and courage.

• A greeting: Dear [name].
• The occasion: First Holy Communion and the date.
• A wish: faith, joy, wisdom, good friends.
• A signature, so the child knows who the card is from.

Communion card for a boy or a girl

Put two colours and one main motif in your brief, and the designs stay consistent. For boys, families often choose navy, pale blue or green with gold and a chalice or wheat. For girls, white, blush pink or lavender with a dove or a flower crown. White and gold suits every card, including siblings making their communion together.
